I'm doing a small theatre gig (200 people)supporting a musical revue. I'm currently using an Ampeg BA-115 that fills the room nicely but I would like a little more clarity on the top end. There is no PA, and we play in back of a scrim supporting singers that are also not miked. I like the sound of tubes and I thought that the emulation the BA-115 gave me would be fine, but I think I need to get a better rig. I think I would also like to go to a 1-12.

The amps that I have tried (and are available locally) are the Hartke Kickback 12 and the Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout. I'm leaning toward the Walkabout since it would offer me the flexibility of adding an extension cab for louder gigs.

What concerns me is I will have to put the amp on a stand to direct the sound over a barrier directly in front of me. Will putting it on a stand negate the downward firing speaker that the walkabout has?

The Hartke also has a rear port, will putting it on a stand render it useless?

    Any other suggestions?
