So, CAN you buy a very cool bass for less than 250 Euros? NBD: Eighties Kramer Duke bass

Well today after almost six months I decided to visit the German city of Aachen where my regular stop is a music store which specializes in cool second hand stuff and where I often left with something cool.

So I went in, looked around and saw THIS.

Apparently it belonged to a guy named Michael.

249 Euros was what it said on the tag and knowing how cool a Duke bass is, it took me no time at all to decide to take this one with me.

So after I got home, I decided to look up what exactly I had bought and I found why it was that cheap:
    - They never came in metallic blue, at some spots, I saw that the original color was white.
    - They only came with one pickup, whoever did the routing for the neck pickup and the fitting of the concentric knobs did a PRO job.
So that former owner had quite some work done on this bass, which sadly didn't do the value of the instrument much good.

All the same, whatever else you can buy for under 250 Euros isn't very likely going to be anywhere near being as cool as a Kramer Duke bass.

    Congrats!

10% of every purchase gets split evenly between Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford. ;)

Planning to refinish it? I would hate having a bass with someone else's name on it. Or is is possible to remove the name? It looks like a marker or different type of paint.

the writing is underneath the clear coat

BUT it's nothing that a Punk rock approved sticker can't fix.

  5. Cool for sure!

But how does it play, what does it sound like?

    Michael is no longer visible.

The bass has a very hi-fi sound coming from the fact that it has a maple body and an Alumunium neck. It's very much like Stanley Clarke and Mark King.

Lefty Duke 1.JPG Nice...very nice. With that mod, can you still make the original Schaller "Twin J" pickup do it's thing; ie, both halves; bridge half; half of each in a P-Bass configuration? I sure hope so, because IMO that's what makes these little monsters so cool. If it can still do it's thing, then the extra pickup would make yours uber cool...

    Pretty cool looking bass.

I think I'd keep Michael rather than stickers.
Mainly because I hate stickers other than racing stripes.
