So I was looking through craigslist the other day and stumbled upon someone selling two vintage bass bows for $150, well in the end I payed $200 because someone else made an offer. But anyway One is stamped A. Schroetter and the other is unstamped. They both need rehaired and the unstamped one looks like it needs some more work then just a rehair. Take a look and let me know if I got a decent deal or just threw away $200.

They look beautiful! How do they play?
Schroetter is a bit unclear brand as far as i know.

I won't know how they play for a while since they both need some work done. The Schroetter needs a little less than the other one. As far as I can tell it just needs rehaired and maybe cleaned up a bit. The other one needs a new tip and stuff which I was told is a little pricey.
And right now I don't know anyone in my area that works on bows but I'm moving to Boston in August so I'm going to have someone take a look at them up there.

Well I got the A Schoretter rehaired and cleaned up a bit and I really like it. I haven't decided yet if I like it more than my Claude Marchand. One thing I have to say is that I can seem to pull a bigger sound out of my bass with it comepared to the Marchand, also I like that it's longer, over a 1/2 inch longer.
As for the other bow I don't quite have the money yet to get that playable because it need a new tip along with a rehair and probably wouldn't hurt to be re wrapped. But hopefully I can get that one playable and then have two new nice bows for just a few hundred dollars.

I have but can't find much concrete info on it. As far as I can tell its very possibly pernambuco and is a German import shop bow that seems like the one if the higher end ones from the schoretter line.

I got both of them in playable condition now. The Schroetter just got a rehair and cleaned up a little. The German shop bow I got a new tip, refinished and rehaired, it could probably use a wrap but for right now I'm leaving it how it is. I think I'm going to sell one of them I just don't know which yet. If I sell the german shop bow then I'll have two good bows but no back up as in a bow that I don't care so much about. But I do like the Schroetter just not nearly as much as my Marchand.
