So I did this the non-destructive way, do I could see how it looks. Damn, that worked out great.

Plus a $8 pick guard from EBay.

If I'm honest, I'd have to say I like them better w/o the p/g:

Not bad. I think it would look better if the guard was trimmed straight across the back, eliminating the control plate indent.

I like it with or without. This is just a fun experiment.

Did you drill or attach screw heads to the pick guard?

It's just so clean without it. A clear pickguard would be okay.

I like it! Would be better if you made a custom guard and instead of the open notch that fits the control plate on a standard jazz, you make one that comes to a point somewhere below the control knobs. The pearloid looks great! Forget what anyone else says though, you do whatever makes YOU happy.

I always thought Jazzes without pickguards looked super weird. The body is just so big that without the guard to accentuate the curves they start looking a bit like a chopping board.

Personally, I'd have gone for a matte black one, but whatever rocks your socks.

I thought my Okoume needed some help too - so I refinished it in a satin walnut and added a wood guard. And an OBP-3 preamp, ebony knobs, black hardware, recessed strap locks. Next I will change out the pickups just to be sure to lose money when I sell.

So you snipped the heads of the screws and then mounted the PG with adhesive? And the screw heads are held in with adhesive?

    Cool idea.

Amazing!!! And yeah I hear ya. I’ve modded the hell out of basses only to have to remove all the new hardware and try to reclaim my investment when I sell them. It’s been a long expensive journey, but I’ve finally settled on Fender Jazz basses as my fave.

Yours is absolutely incredible! I like everything you’ve done. Excellent choices, and great eye. Bravo!

I totally agree. Jazzes w/o a PG look naked to me as well.
I like it but I agree Unclebass that it would look more finished w/o the J control plate V shape.
