Does anyone know a site with some basic tools and other things ill need.
Stewart Mac has lots of tools, supplies, etc., and they have good free catalog:
You could also check out the Music Makers Instrument Forum:
And of course the Luthier's Corner right here at Talkbass:
Warmoth has premade bodies, necks, etc.:
Excellent, helpful post! That's why I love this site... If you visit the StewMac site, there is a fantastic book, Build Your Own Electric Guitar, that outlines everything from design, to wiring and finishing, to final setup. I don't know about the version pictured, but I bought an earlier version that had an nice neck-through 8 string bass... In the book, he covers set-neck, bolt-on, and neck-through construction with design considerations for all three... This is the one that got me started.
Good luck and have fun,
Carvin offers bass kits for 4 and 5 string basses. www.carvin.com
Also you might want to try USA Custom Guitars. They, like Warmoth, sell parts. They are a bunch of guys who used to work for Warmoth
