So... if Santa was a musician, what would he play?

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by dryheatbob, Dec 21, 2004.

  1. Just seems like a dumb enough question to warrant a few responses.

I tried to picture him as a bassist, but it just didn't look right...

for some reason I envision him playing a nice tenor sax, and swingin' some mean Chicago style blues...

How's this for a name: St. Nick and the Chimney Divers.

So waddya you guys think he'd play?

Extra pats on the back and Christmas cookies for analytical or empirical logic used in the reasoning for your answers. Effort counts!

I think he would play a mean latin-blues-acid rock guitar. Just so that he could be called.......

I don't know why, but I think a big jolly man like that gets down on the tuba.

Tuba, no doubt. There is no other possibility.

Every year in hundreds of cities across the globe, there is an event called TubaChristmas. Tuba and euphonium players from around the area gather together and play christmas carols. I do it every year, three years in a row now, and it is awesome. They are all done now (they take place in early to mid december, mine was this past Sunday), but next year, you all should really try to find the nearest one and go check it out. It is a really great experience, to play in and to hear.

I don't know about that, the first thing that popped into my head was six string bass. I think he'd like the extended range.

Can't picture him playing fretless, though, as cool as that would be.

I picture him in the back, behind eight instrumentalists and a red-nosed front man. That spells "drummer."

Hmm...looks like a baritone to me!

Anyway, has no one seen a picture of Michael Tobias around here? I think the clear answer is that Santa and Mr. Tobias are one and the same, thus, Santa = bass player.

Chuck Sher publishes my book, WALKING BASSICS:The Fundamentals of Jazz Bass Playing.
Naw, he only gigs once a year.

That would make him a trombonist.

  17. it would be pretty cool to see Michael Tobias come out of the chimney with a new bass for me. 2 problems however.

    1. no chimney
    2. no new bass for christmas
