So Who's already added "Uptown Funk" to their set list and how long is your bass solo?

Even though we're primarily a classic rock band, we do some country, pop and classic R&B.
The drummer and I have deep R&B backgrounds so the rest of the band has been informed that we'll be adding this song after the holidays and there WILL be a one and a half to two minute rhythm section showcase spot in it.

Sometimes it's good to be the Music Director!

I'm betting it's going to be the "tear the roof off of the place" song for this summer.

I'm gonna be learning it for sure. One of the reasons why I left my most recent band is cos it will take them two more years to add this to their repertoire, if they ever get around to it.

Sounds like my old band and "Blurred Lines"! Took 'em almost a year to add it. I had left the band by then.

At the beginning of 2014 (I gave notice in August and effectively quit last month or so - looong story :) ) I suggested we do "Happy" cos Pharrel was all over every radio station. The BL replied saying we'd be learning the Doobie Bros "Listen To The Music" ... That obviously being THE song everyone was waiting for. And at 33 I was the second-OLDEST member in the band!

On our list. What's a bass solo?

Sounds remarkably like something from Was (Not Was) Walk the Dog.

It's in the repertoire for my corporate band. Not my favourite song nor is it a dance floor hit but it's fun to play partly because we have a six piece horn section. No bass solo and I'm perfectly fine with that!

We're not doing it yet, but it's in the works. I prolly won't do a solo, but I'm thinking about building a bass-modded Colorsound Diphonizer clone.

We already do "Happy", "Blurred Lines", "Treasure" and "Get Lucky".

I just joined a classic rock / disco / retro band and I'll be suggesting this one along with Treasure and Get Lucky. I'm not a soloist, but I think a drum / bass breakdown would be cool for a few bars - just play the main rif and throw in some slap stuff in between.

The bass solo should at least be five to six minutes that way people can check their phones, order drinks and use the restroom. :)

Note that in my post I said we'll have a "one and a half to two minute rhythm section showcase spot". It won't be soloing per se, the goal is first and foremost to be entertaining.

I love bass and being a bassist but I absolutely HATE long @$$ bass solos! 16-32 bars and I'm done. No wankery for me! That song does not need a solo of any kind! Why ruin a good thing....

In our setlist and I'm using an octaver to back up the "do dooo do's"

Does it work well and if so which one do you have? I can get that low on my own but when I'm pumped up for a show it's hard to relax the voice enough for those low notes.

I have an IStomp, which emulates the OC2. It works fine in the orig key, as it's not so low on the fretboard as to create tracking issues.

It was added to our list as well. Actually can't wait until our next rehearsal to work it out.

    Happy Holidays to all.

I told our vocalist it is being added but haven't informed the rest of the band yet. I do like the idea of a short "rhythm showcase", mainly to get the drummer on board. Would make the tune more interesting for him.

Added. Loving the song and fun to play. We'll play it out on our next gig for the first time.

    Nobody give me anything!
Bass solos can be great but if you play a solo you can definitely loose the groove to this song.
