Chicken !!! Get it and tell me what you think. It's a bit messy, crappy recorded and it hasn't been mastered yet.
Yeah, the Soul Intro is a must-do. I don't play Jaco's parts though. I just made up mine and stole him a few ideas.
Yeah, I have a recording of "the chicken" too, from my senior show, I just listened to it again, it's really not that good at all. (didn't do the soul intro ) That night I took a lot from jaco, Though generally when I play it I just kind of flirt with his ideas. it's a very very fun song though.
Thank you. It's a modular band. There are initially 9 musicians. Drums Percussions Keyboards Guitar Trumpet Tenor sax Alto sax Trombone Bass. Now, we rarely are all together due to agendas. So, we modify structures on the fly depending on the present musicians. Trombone and percs were not present for this gig. It's a very open ensemble, kinda like a jam band. The style we play fits very well for this kind of band. Basically, we take 70s jazz tunes and funkify them.
It is. We're all in it for the fun and mostly experienced musicians, so we don't really question the others' choices. I never got told what to play. We define structures, riffs and changes together and then trust others for their own part. I haven't seen a fight in 2 years 1/2. Wanna get more ? Soul Power, with presentations since it was the last song of our set. Le Phil du rasoir, check for mystakes there are a few nice ones.
Hey, I have a 9-piece funk band that plays 70's jazz songs! I have a recording of the Chicken too, as a mere 7-piece. I'll post it to pointbeing as soon as I make 250 more posts there. You know, I would become a supporting member here if it came with 50MB of web space or something. I don't know what the hardware setup is for talkbass, but hard drives cost like $1 per Gigabyte.
I think we have the exact same lineup, except our guitar player never actually plays with us since he lives in LA now. Between the horns and the percussion, there's no real need for a guitar, so we haven't filled the spot. Here's the setlist from the last gig Hip Hug Her - Booker T Outta Love Again - Van Halen (with Long Train Running - Doobie Brothers as the solo section) Godzilla - Blue Oyster Cult (Halloween special!) Mercy, Mercy, Mercy - Joe Zawinul Cissy Strut - The Meters Red Clay - Freddie Hubbard Swamp Cooler - original Stratus - Billy Cobham Sanford & Son - Quincy Jones Cataclysmo - original Suck It - original Povo - Freddie Hubbard Go Go - Galactic Know Your Enemy - Rage Against the Machine The Chicken - Pee Wee Ellis The rock tunes are reworked, obviously.
Here, see if these work Sanford & Son The Chicken Trumpet, sax, percussion, keys, drums (a fill-in guy), bass
Please I have to hear it!!! If you can post it, a happy camper I would be! I love the chicken by the way!! Thanks a lot...
OK, I put a copy of Know Your Enemy on that Soundclick page, too. It's a live recording with guitar, keys, sax (a different guy than in the other two recordings), bass, drums. The keyboard player wrote a melody for the verse, which is normally played in harmony by the horn section. I pretty much play the same 4 measures throughout the song. Sometimes I get itchy; but I don't think this was one of those times.
I'm in my school's funk group which consists of: -Bass -Synth/organ -Piano -Drums -Percussion -2-3 guitarists -4 singers -tenor sax -trombone -bari sax -trumpet Oddly enough, it never really sounds cluddered. I generally prefere small groups, but playing in a 16-peice has its moments.
