Recently i have been seeing a few threads for newbies wanting band names. I copied them from an Australian music mag, so if you dont know some of the names, there ya go. Here are some tips to make some your own...

    Join Two Words
Eg:Cold Play, Penny Wise, Crazy Town, Spider Bait"

    Join An Adjective
Magic Dirt, Bad Religion, Super Heist

    Use A Number
Blink 182, Area 7, Sum 41. Be careful, because if you want to be called 311, make sure your not called three one one or three-hundered-and-eleven. Also you may want to spell it. One Odd Reason, Sevendust.

    Long Names
If you got a name that you really like, and its too long to say really quickly, abbreviate. Rage Against The Machine=R.A.T.M.

    Using ..."The"
Leave this word off your name. If your going to be called Foo Fighters, people will automatically put "the" in front anyway.

Henery Rollins Band, Ben Harper. Sure the other members may not be happy, but it works in SOME cases.

    Get The Thesaurus
Look up Demon, or nightmare, and you get Incubus. AND you fool people into thinking that your smart

    Get Shifty
A band rumored to have done this is Linkin Park. When peoplke look for famous bands, they look for L-I-Mp Bizkit. Next is L-I-Nkin park. Smart eh?

    Search the net
What ever you decide on, there is bound to be someone else like you. Go to and type in your "new" name.

When it comes to CD or Gig reviews, be warned. If you call your band tough, the critics may say, "Well they may be Tough, but their shows are weaker than my grandmother.

    Cheers ;)

So I take it you get Blunt aswell huh. Look in the next edition of it for a "15 year old bassist from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne looking for a guitarist, vocalist and drummer wanted to start a punk/metal/alternative rock bands whos main influences are Metallica, Papa Roach, and Greenday". Thats me. ;) Just another question, where abouts are you in Melbourne?
  6. well actually that was the first blunt which i got cos
it had system on the front!!! and yep if i end up getting it
    i'll read your thingo!!
i live around the sandringham/cheltenham area...

That's actually good advice. Think you got a good name? That you're lucky nobody has thought of? Well, then chances are, somebody has.

also, has almost literally ever major release, ever catologued, so you can check there too.

    my band's name is "XeroHour"

i wasn't in the decision making process in that one, i'll tell ya.

if it were up to me, i would be in a band named "camel toe", "honeymoon bladder", or "spinabifida."

but i DO like making fun of my band's name: XeroTalent!!

Do a net search on "band name generator". There are at least a dozen of them, and you can get both useful ideas, and some good laughs!
  19. haha, thanks for the warning dude!
and sorry to spoil ya fun old_skool, but im taken!
  20. Critics get a real kick out of this. It'd be cool if artisits sat around making up psuedo-clever alliterations, comparisons and the like with Critic's names. I'd buy that.

I like Incubus' name. It kind makes sense seeing as they're the "super-guru-sex-band", to be named after a type of demon that sucks your life force out of you while you're "doing the act".

What about one word names that have no bearing on you're band, like Filter, or Fuel.

But by far the coolest band names are the ones that are three words, i.e. Less than Jake, Spring Heeled Jack, Black Eyed Peas, Hot Water Music, etc.
