I'm gonna follow the wisdom of a great guru and put a single soapbar with no electronics at all to my homebrew bass. But it seems like there is not too much selection for passive soapbars.

I have the impression that Barts work best with active electronics. Duncan ASB's are active. I'm not thrilled about EMG HZ's and Kent Armstrongs. What else?

Oh, Villex PU's are intresting and they make soapbars too. Any ideas how their soapbars sound?

(the bass is going to be fretless, ebony fb, 1-piece maple neck-through, walnut wings and 34" scale)

Bart soaps work great passive IME. My fretless semihollow Elrick NJS 5 has a single Bart in it and a volume and tone control. Excellent sounding fretless, easily one of the best I've ever played.

Thanks Brad, that was a quick one! :)

Do you know what model is in your Elrick?

Not sure, I got the bass secondhand... it's a Bart dual coil as far as I can tell.
