My soapbars do grrrrrrrrowl. EMG 40P5 (neck) and 40J (bridge). I'm pretty sure they are PJ pickups in soapbar housings (their model name is kind of a clue, heh).

Most of the time I play with the neck pickup soloed (hi-fi P-bass-like tone). I can also get a Jaco type tone from the bridge pickup. With both pickups on, the tone is smoother with still a bit of growl.

  3. The Bartolini X5 ought to do the trick, and I think they're the same size too.
