I’m looking for a soft leather or suede strap with an aged or broken in feel. Not padded, 2.5-3.5 wide. I usually use Levy’s M4 straps, but they are pretty stiff out of the box. Brand & model would be appreciated.

Are there no guitar shops in your area? If there are- do they not stock straps?

Perspiration and unlined straps mean some strap residue on your shirts.I had a beautiful custom strap handcrafted by the hippie down the hall in 1972. Wide and stamped with astrological and Native American symbols, a thing of beauty.

As my gigs got better I began to notice that my imported polyester shirts had a stain on them right where the strap goes. Ultimately it became the hang on the wall trophy. Just saying it might not be for everyday use.

Interesting info about unlined straps. I ended up ordering a Lakota bison hide strap today. I’ll report back when I have had a chance to use it for a while.

If you have an leatherworker in your area, you can get exactly what you want made, and it might not cost more than an off-the-peg model. I had one made for me years ago, 3" wide soft but sturdy black leather with black fleece padding, and I couldn't be happier.

I have used Moody guitar straps on all of my instrument for years, and I've been extremely satisfied with them. They're not what I'd call soft, but they have great flexibility and comfort, and get to a 'broken in' feel in just a matter of a couple days of playing. They're not cheap though.

I picked up an Anthology Gear Wear strap. It’s so comfortable. Doesn’t even feel like I’m holding anything.

I can confirm that the Lakota Bison Leather strap is extremely soft, pliable and comfortable. Definitely has a broken-in feel. Strap locks or rubber washer on strap buttons are probably a good idea.
