I’m looking for a soft leather or suede strap with an aged or broken in feel. Not padded, 2.5-3.5 wide. I usually use Levy’s M4 straps, but they are pretty stiff out of the box. Brand & model would be appreciated.
Heistercamp straps are meant to be amazing, they’ve got an extra soft range. Not cheap though Handmade Super-Soft Leather Guitar Straps by Heistercamp.
Perspiration and unlined straps mean some strap residue on your shirts.I had a beautiful custom strap handcrafted by the hippie down the hall in 1972. Wide and stamped with astrological and Native American symbols, a thing of beauty. As my gigs got better I began to notice that my imported polyester shirts had a stain on them right where the strap goes. Ultimately it became the hang on the wall trophy. Just saying it might not be for everyday use.
Interesting info about unlined straps. I ended up ordering a Lakota bison hide strap today. I’ll report back when I have had a chance to use it for a while. Guitar Straps from Lakota Leathers
If you have an leatherworker in your area, you can get exactly what you want made, and it might not cost more than an off-the-peg model. I had one made for me years ago, 3" wide soft but sturdy black leather with black fleece padding, and I couldn't be happier.

I picked up one of these locally last week and dig it: Perri's 3.5" Leather Guitar Strap with Natural Suede Backing | SamAsh Brand: Perri's Models: PP35NSBBN-P - Natural suede backing PP35NBBBB-P - Black suede backing
I have used Moody guitar straps on all of my instrument for years, and I've been extremely satisfied with them. They're not what I'd call soft, but they have great flexibility and comfort, and get to a 'broken in' feel in just a matter of a couple days of playing. They're not cheap though. I picked up an Anthology Gear Wear strap. It’s so comfortable. Doesn’t even feel like I’m holding anything. The Reticent - Whiskey Brown
I've used Rock Steady black suede guitar straps on my basses for a long time now. They never slip while I'm playing, they're soft and supple, and you don't have to raid the Federal Reserve to own one. https://www.guitarcenter.com/Rock-Steady/RSSL02-Suede-Guitar-Strap.gc
I can confirm that the Lakota Bison Leather strap is extremely soft, pliable and comfortable. Definitely has a broken-in feel. Strap locks or rubber washer on strap buttons are probably a good idea.
