    Price:
    $846
    Strings:
    4
    Location:
    Texas
For sale Sold for $846 on the bay is a circa-1983 G&L L2000 in Black; four-string, dual humbuckers, two-band EQ, maple fretboard with original black crinkle hardware. Weight on my scale is 10 1/4 pounds. It plays and sounds great. I bought this on TalkBass about 4 years ago and it is in about the same condition. There’s a number of small nicks and scratches on the body as you might expect on a thirty-year old bass, the back of the neck is in great shape in the playing area with a small scratch and a dent where you would hang it up. A Hipshot Drop-D tuner is installed, I will include the original tuner as well.

Bass ships strung with brand new Sadowsky Black Label Stainless Steel Round Wound strings and a new Duracell battery. I will ship it in a cheapo Fender gig bag. It will be wrapped in bubble wrap and packed in a new cardboard box.

I’m asking $850 $750 $700, PayPal is fine, contact me about other payment methods. Free delivery anywhere in the Houston area. Will ship to continental US for $100 FREE or to Alaska/Hawaii for actual shipping. Will consider shipping to Canada for actual shipping, insurance and duty costs based on sales price. No International shipping, sorry.

I’m trying to thin the herd so absolutely no trades, sorry.

Feel free to ask questions in the comments or PM me directly. Thanks for your interest!

What year did G&L put the "point" on the head stock and make the bridge black?

Thanks mpdd, I have two, both 1983 black with maple, I call them my Swiss Army basses, the electronics let you get a wide variety of tones from the same bass. Definitely an evolution from P-bass to StingRay to L2000. I have been directed to reduce my number of instruments to "a normal-person's amount"

I love my El Toro and loved my L 2500 before deciding the neck was just too chunky compared to other beloved 5ers I own. The electronics for the '83 are the same as present day, no?

Yes, I have a brand new L2500 and the controls are the same, a pickup selection switch, a series/parallel switch and a switch for passive/active/ative with high boost, as well knobs for volume, treble and bass.

Do you happen to know what wood the body is made from?

Hi MontzterMash, no, sorry, I don't know and I don't know how to find out. Would some pics with the neck off be enough to tell you what you want to know?

According to the specifications on G&L's site, they use Alder on Standard and all solid finishes, and Swamp Ash on Premier Finishes on their new L-2000s.

Not to confuse things, but G&L used alder, ash, poplar, mahogany, and maple for body woods from 1980 to 1987. Usually, solid finishes were alder or poplar on L-2000's from 83-84. They stopped using the 'original' headstock shape on Feb 15, 1983, when CBS/Fender's lawyers showed up on the doorstep with a cease and desist order. Leo Fender was mad as hell, and George Fullerton came up with the new headstock shape.."Let those SOB's try to sue us now!" True story.

...and killer deal here, gang. If you wanna rumble ball-sacks six blocks away, here's your bass....NOTHING fills up the bottom end like a vintage G&L. If the Canadian dollar wasn't in the tank, I'd jump all over this. GLWTS Drew, somebody is about to get a monster....

Awesome, thanks for the info El Tookay, appreciate your comments. I have four L2000s and an L2500 and I love them all, but I was told that I need to reduce my collection to a "normal" amount of basses.

Bump. It's going onto craigslist and eBay this weekend, I'd be glad to deliver in the Houston area and I'll discount for a local sale and/or a cash sale.
