Can anyone ID this bass? Found it on CL - this is the only photo and the description says:
"Fender Jazz bass. Mexican made. Short scale."

It's not the Modern Player SS Jazz. I have that one, which is a P/J with a one piece pickguard (no metal control plate). I'm stumped. Can the Fender gurus here provide some info? Thanks!

I believe Fender made a short scale Jazz Bass for the Japanese market, but if they say this is MIM, then I'm stumped. I'd see if you can get the serial number, that should give you more information.

There's MIJ medium scale and a 28ish inch scale. I don't know if there's a 30" MIJ. There's an MIM precision that's under 30". This one kinda looks short scale. I don't know.

Well, I got the serial # and looked it up. Here’s the result:
Your guitar was made at the
    Ensenada Plant (Fender), Mexico
    in 1997 - 1998

The seller also sent another photo. He told me it's his wife's bass and she doesn't play it anymore. He had his bassist friend look at it and tell him what to put in the ad: "Fender Jazz bass. Mexican made. Short scale."
I don't know of any short scale jazz bass made in Mexico. Still a mystery! Anybody have a clue?

If there were a SS MIM Jazz, I'd have one by now.

Looks like it's the active deluxe, a nice bass but 34" scale

@Reedt2000 you nailed it! Went to see it tonight out of curiosity. Active deluxe 34" it is!
His friend was wrong about the "short scale." He did tell me his friend has very long arms :)

So did you buy it? I always like the sound of those active J basses.

No, I prefer short scales. It was really nice though!
