I have a chance to get a 2006 American made SVT CL with a 1995-1996 810 cab for all of $950. In great shape with covers.

I am a sucker for tubes and have played a Super Bassman and a Pignose B100V as my only foray into the tube world. A local bands bass player uses an Ampeg SVT CL and man his sound is heaven

So should I give it a go?

By the way I play rock, soul, country, Americana, funk ,etc.
  2. Go for it, if you're ok with the size and weight, the tone from that should be amazing!

    You haven't got it yet?

  6. Go....Now.....I had to pay $1500 for basically the same rig. Even if it needs some tubes , it's still a good deal. Hook it up and make sure there aren't any funny noises. If it sounds good , buy it. That's a heck of a deal.
Stop reading TB and go get the ultimate rig.

I am going to pick it up tomorrow morning. A bit of a hike for me but I think it will be worth it.

Any issues I should be aware of?

If you want to lug that pig around that is a good deal and the head is from a reliable era.

Any issues aside from back pain? I'd just give it a usual once over, kick some juice through the cab and spin all the knobs.

The only issues I can think of would be the usual tubes and caps issues. A 10-year-old head might need some cap replacements in the near future. But at that price, I wouldn't sweat it if it works.

Lol. I cut the bass because all the stuff in my garage was rattling like crazy. Lol.
I was actually getting a great 70's thump out of that setting :)
  18. I'm guessing that this is your first tube rig and this bears repeating. Make sure the little ohm switch on the back is set to 4 ohms for one cabinet. This is the big one. NEVER turn the amp on until the speakers are hooked up. This monster requires a load to be connected and if you play through it without the speakers being connected , you can (and probably will) blow the output transformer. That's about a $600 repair. If you get a second cab and hook it up make sure you change the ohm switch to two ohms. And if you do ever run two cabs with it , please try to let me know in advance. I tried mine with two cabs a few years ago and I'm pretty sure that is what caused the East Coast earthquake.;)
