Sounds like they just bit the bullet and took the cheaper way out in the long run.
$350,000 is probably a lot easier for Gibson to swallow than the lawyer's bill for going to a trial that they may or may not have won.
It feels a little bit like extortion on the government's part, though. The gov knows that the company has to choose the more cost-effective solution, no matter which way the facts point. It would have been interesting to see the facts come out in a trial, though.
