My favorite store got another cherry burst Rickenbacker 4003s. Man, I love those basses! The first video is me slapping with the bridge pickup only. The second video is the bridge pickup with mutes so I can sort of mimic Leon Sylver III (not exactly though because he uses flats.)

  2. Great slap tone!

Yes, Rics sound great slapped. I will always remember a guy my age, Danny Freeman, who was a monster slapper, in the mold of Larry Graham, who sounded fantastic on a 4001.

Any chance of you buying one of these in the future? You sound great on a Ric.

Yes, I think I will buy a 4003s in particular, maybe in 2019, I am due to pick up a Pedulla early in 2018. My wife might clean my clock if I pick up two expensive basses in one year.

BUTTTTTTT!!!! You can't slap on a Rick. We've been told this time and again on TalkBASS by those, well, you know who they are, so it HAS to be true, right?!?!?!?!?

Careful... Lance Armstrong did, and he can't slap like that... Almond Joy did commemorate Lance, though, with their Fun-Size treat...

I’ve heard you on a lot of different basses. I can honestly say that something about this bass sounds like YOUR BASS! You always sound like you but it seems to me that you play this one with such ease, it makes it seem almost effortless . Like the bass is extension of you. Perhaps you have returned home to your first bass love?!

I know you tend to consider yourself a Jazz and 5 string player , but you really shine on a Ric. I could see you with this Ric and your Peavey Fury w flats making beautiful music together.

Although it has been thirty years, that Rickenbacker 4003s does feel like home indeed. I will get one. It is just a matter of when.
