    .... or should they ?

too much time on my hands sitting at home, and I found this old template I used to make what is basically a mash up of a telecaster bass and an ampeg scroll. I built this thing many years ago, but I’m kind of thinking I should build another one. Maybe a fancier one, with a solid flame maple body and a walnut pickguard?

anyway, here are pictures of the one I built years ago, plus the template. I would obviously make a new template using this one for the basic stuff, but I can definitely do better work now....

yes.... clearly I have ADD :D

    Super cool bass. :bassist:
Like that one a lot. The color and color fades are very cool.
What tuners are those? ..they look like the ones that would come on the old 60's off brand basses.

Maybe do a neck through version. Flame maple with walnut stringers, flame maple body wings, walnut pick guard.

i’ve never done a neck thru body, so it might be a fun opportunity.... I kind a like my new headstock design with it as well.

The tuners look Fender Tele from the front and look Ampeg Scroll from the back.

Wouldn't the pickguard cover up most of the pretty laminations that would make up the build?

It would cover up the front, but it wouldn’t cover up the laminations on the backside.

Man, if I built a bass out of stuff I found in my drawer, the CDC would raid my house in the dead of night.... :roflmao:

Speaking of basses built from stuff found in drawers, I built this one a while back .... farm tin, bookshelves, bolts, shower drain, acorn nuts, and a belt buckle, among other things :D

That's a slick handle. Great look! You should definitely make more. Especially since we're all in hiding for a while.
p.s. I think we have the same fence guy.

I remember that thing. I've always thought it was cool as heck, so I can only hope you do make another one.

Love that! Built a Bo Diddley bass back in the 90's but it was much more traditional than the unique attention to detail on yours. Well done.
