All right, calm down will ya. I've been sneaking into my band's place at nights recently and practising on my drummer's set, mostly jamming along to White Stripes and Beck songs. Do you guys know any songs with easy drums in them that would be good to learn? Anything but metal would be great. Thanks.
Hmm... not familiar with that one and I have a sneaking suspicion that if I check it out I'll find something that several drummers have died practising. Close?
You know what moley's like! How about anything by AC/DC. Certainly their earlier stuff sounded pretty simple (although I'm not a drummer, so don't count my opinion for too much). Wulf
Go to the source, play along to some Beatles music. Ringo rocks! Work on your time and your groove, don't mess with fills for now. Enjoy!
Radiohead's stuff did a lot for my independence of limbs. Their drum parts are relatively simple (OK Computer's a good start), but it'll develop your ability to ride 8th notes with your right arm, and not be tied to playing on those 8th notes with your kick. Simple independence exercise. After that, I'd say A Perfect Circle is great stuff to build on your independence and interdependence, and help you learn how to do good fills and improvise based on a loose feel. System of a Down is great energetic stuff that builds speed, but they're something of an acquired taste (well, so are Radiohead and APC, I guess, but if you don't like metal, you might not like SOAD, even though they aren't metal).
I almost died just LISTENING to it on my new headphones the other day! I can't even air-drum along to that one. --jeff
try some Terry bozzio that will do wonders for your independence wow..gosh I got his video today, and its already helping alot. Um you could play some TOOL, to get into odd times, King Crimson, Rush deffinitly will build up your speed. Play some beatles stuff though, ringo is still my favorite drummer.
