What songs have you played that really moved you ? Which covers gave you that tingle ??

Last weekend my band played for a wedding for a 40-50 year old couple. We are a rock-n-roll cover band. We played that song Always on my mind, by Willie Nelson. The words were so beautiful it really worked me over, and got me thinking about my wife. It was moving for some reason that night watching all the married couples dancing and singing the words to a beautiful love song. It almost choked me up the emotion was so strong. And I'm NEVER like that, but it really made the song stand out in the gig for me.
We have played that song as a band about 50 times and never did I really 'listen' to the words.

Anyone else with a recent favorite cover tune ?
    A good groove ?

  8. These two:

    Trial Of Tears (13:07)
    - John Myung

    i. It's Raining
Under the sun, there is nothing to hide
Under the moon, a stranger waits inside
    People disappear
    The music fades away
    Splashing through the rain
I'll dream with them one day

    It's raining, raining,
On the streets of New York City
It's raining, raining, raining, deep in heaven

I may have wasted all those years
They're not worth their time in tears
I may have spent too long in darkness
In the warmth of my fears

    Take a look at yourself
    Not at anyone else
And tell me what you see
I know the air is cold
I know the streets are cruel
But I'll enjoy the ride today

    It's raining, raining,
On the streets of New York City
It's raining, raining, raining deep in heaven
    Raining deep in heaven

I may have wasted all those years
They're not worth their time in tears
I may have spent too long in darkness
In the warmth of my fears

As I walk through all my myths
Rising and sinking like the waves
With my thoughts wrapped around me
    Through a trial of tears

Hidden by disguise, stumbling in a world
Feeling uninspired, he gets into his car
Not within his eyes to see, open up, open up
Not much better than the man you hate

    ii. Deep In Heaven (instrumental)

    iii. The Wasteland
    Still awake
    I continue to move along
    Cultivating my own nonsense
    Welcome to the wasteland
Where you'll find ashes, nothing but ashes
    Still awake
Bringing change, bringing movement, bringing life
    A silent prayer thrown away,
    Disappearing in the air
Rising, sinking, raining deep inside me
    Nowhere to turn,
I look for a way back home

It's raining, raining, raining deep in heaven
It's raining, raining, raining deep in heaven
It's raining, raining, raining deep in heaven
It's raining, raining, raining deep in heaven

    "Learning To Live" (11:30)
    - John Myung

There was no time for pain
    No energy for anger
The sightlessness of hatred slips away
    Walking through winter streets alone
He stops and takes a breath
    With confidence and self control

I look at the world and see no understanding
I'm waiting to find some sense of strength
I'm begging you from the bottom of my heart to show me understanding

    I need to live life
    Like some people never will
    So find me kindness
    Find me beauty
    Find me truth
When temptation brings me to my knees
And I lay here drained of strength
    Show me kindness
    Show me beauty
    Show me truth

The ways that your heart sounds makes all the difference
It's what decides if you'll endure the pain that we all feel
The way that your heart beats makes all the difference
    In learning to live
Here before me is my soul
    I'm learning to live
    I won't give up
Till I've no more to give

    Listening to the city
    Whispering its violence
I set out watching from above
    The 90's bring new questions
    New solutions to be found
I fell in love to be let down

Once again we dance in the crowd
    At times a step away
From a common fear that's all spread out
It won't listen to what you say
Once you're touched and you stand alone
    To face the bitter fight
    Once I reached for love
And now I reach for life

Another chance to lift my life
Free the sensation in my heart
To ride the wings of dreams into changing horizons
It brings inner peace within my mind,
As I'm lifted from where I've split my life
    I hear an innocent voice
I hear kindness, beauty and truth

The way your heart sounds makes all the difference
It's what decides if you'll endure the pain that we all feel
The way your heart beats makes all the difference
    In learning to live
Spread before you is your soul
So forever hold the dreams within our hearts
    Through nature's inflexible grace
    I'm learning to live

Songs that HAVE made me cry... (that I remember at the moment)

    Sade - No Ordinary Love

Smashing Pumpkins - In My Body

Counting Crows - Perfect Blue Buildings, Anna Begins, Colorblind and Goodnight Elisabeth

Pink Floyd - More (almost the entire album, there was a reason... I happened to be on a particularly rough LSD trip  say no to drugs!)

A lot of music makes me cry, too much to list.

  11. Ray Charles' 'Georgia, on my mind'.

  12. From Stephen Stills' first solo album a song titled "To A Flame".

Drawn to a flame she is far away, out of reach.

    Will she burn her wings?

I can only watch, out of touch, out of my mind.

Wish I could tell if she's alright, feeling fine.

Lucky for me I'm not a jealous man, out of hand, out of my mind.

When this love is over start again, a new friend, fall in love again.

Get yourself high on someone and then wave goodbye,

    Don't you cry.

Go ahead, break your heart, but don't fall apart.

It's like saying goodbye to Paris for the first time.

    Fade To Black
I wonder where you are tonight
you're probably on the rampage somewhere
you have been known to take delight
    in gettin' in somebody's hair
and you always had the knack
    fade to black

I bet you already made a pass
I see a darkened room somewhere
you run your finger round the rim of his glass
run your fingers through his hair
    they scratch across his back
    fade to black

well maybe it's all for the best
but I wish I'd never been lassooed
maybe it's some kind of test
I wish I'd never been tattooed
or been to hell and back
    fade to black

Text, music...it does it for me.

Diary by Bread... Long story short - A husband finds his wife's diary and starts reading about "the man she loves" thinking that it's him of course. At the end of the song he figures out it's NOT HIM! (...Her meaning now was clear to see - the love she waited for was someone else not me..) If you really want to have a cryfest (almost), just buy Bread's greatest hits and a box of kleenex.:bawl:

Every single time I hear this I tear up...killed me the first time I heard it, still does today almost 15 years later.

    Time Stand Still

I turn my back to the wind
    To catch my breath
    Before I start off again.
Driven on without a moment to spend
To pass an evening with a drink and a friend

I let my skin get too thin
    I'd like to pause
    No matter what I pretend
    Like some pilgrim
    Who learns to transcend
Learns to live as if each step was the end

    (Time stand still)
    I'm not looking back
But I want to look around me now
    (Time stand still)
See more of the people and the places that surround me now
Freeze this moment a little bit longer
Make each sensation a little bit stronger
    Experience slips away
    Experience slips away

I turn my face to the sun
    Close my eyes
    Let my defences down
All those wounds that I can't get unwound

I let my past go too fast
    No time to pause
If I could slow it all down
Like some captain, whose ship runs aground
I can wait until the tide comes around

    (Time stand still)
    I'm not looking back
But I want to look around me now
    (Time stand still)
See more of the people and the places that surround me now
Freeze this moment a little bit longer
Make each impression a little bit stronger
Freeze this motion a little bit longer
    The innocence slips away
    The innocence slips away...

Summer's going fast, nights growing colder
Children growing up, old friends growing older
Freeze this moment a little bit longer
Make each impression a little bit stronger
    Experience slips away
    Experience slips away...
    The innocence slips away.

2 huge guilty pleasures for me...
FATA is funny, I can listen to Too Bad You're Beautiful and be thinking that (IMO) their music is totally contrived and totally derivative; but that doesn't stop it from getting to me. When that acoustic guitar and girl singer come in on Short Stories... it's all over for me.:bawl:
