Can anyone suggest some songs have bass solo ?
Here are a few of my favorites:
Everything is Everything: Donny Hathaway Live/ Willie Weeks on bass
School Days: Stanley Clarke/ Stanley on bass
Desert Song on the same album
Stomp: the Brothers Johnson/ Louis Johnson on bass
There are hundreds of great ones, but without checking my collection, these came to mind as some of my favorites.
a few i like:
Coffee shop - Chili peppers (2 bass solos)
Stone cold bush - Chili peppers
Stomp - brothes johnson
Dancin Free - Brothers johnson
ill post more when more come to mind
"Freewill" by Rush
"Gloria" by U2
"Blister In The Sun" by Violent Femmes
My Generation by The Who (John Entwistle on bass)
Havona by Weather Report (Jaco Pastorius on bass)
(Used to Be A) Cha Cha by Jaco Pastorius
The Lemon Song by Led Zeppelin (John Paul Jones on bass)
Those are a few of my favorite bass solos.
A few classic rock oldies with simple bass solos:
"Bang a Gong", Power Station version
"All Right Now", Free
"Brown Eyed Girl", Van Morrison
"Bouree", Jethro Tull
Shu ba du ma ma mama- Steve Miller Band
Got to be "Mr. Big" by FREE. One of the first, and still one of the best. Always got a hell of a cheer whenever I played it.
Red hot chili peppers - Naked in the rain.
Rancid - Maxwell Murder
Michael Schenker Group - Into the arena (live) (shredding bass solo!!!)
The first two I ever learned as a younger lad:
Powerslave - Iron Maiden (Steve Harris)
Stranger in a Strange Land - Iron Maiden (Steve Harris)
Pretty rippin solos in both IMO. Up the Irons!
All these have Jaco Pastorius playing bass:
(used to be a) Cha Cha
Portrait of Tracy
Teen Town (Weather Report)
Port of Entry (Weather Report)
Havona (Weather Report)
Check out Bernard Edwards' solos on;
Everybody Dance, also
Return to Forever - Spain
Aerosmith - Gotta Love It
Rush - Red Barchetta, La Villa Strangiato, Driven
The Who - Call Me Lightning, Success Story, Trick of the Light
Quiet Sun - Rongwrong
Kansas - Magmum Opus
Yes - Machine Messiah
Deep Purple - Pictures of Home, Fireball
Metallica - Orion
There's a bass solo in Powerslave?
It's already been mentioned, but Orion is probably my favourite bass solo.
There's a cool (but very short) solo in 'Take No Prisoners' by Megadeth.
Of course there's 'YYZ' by Rush.
On the death metal side of things, there is 'Images' by Sadus, and 'The Philosopher' by Death. Steve DiGiorgio plays fretless for both. Very fast and technical stuff.
Finally, there's a really good solo in the song 'Sea of Lies' by Symphony X. There's a cool bass intro as well.
Violent Femmes-Add It Up
Stuart Hamm songs with bass solos:
Kings Of Sleep
Call Of The Wild
Further Down Market
The Tenacity of Genes and Dreams
Radio Free Albemuth
If You're Scared, Stay Home
GHS songs (the Gamble/Hamm/Smith fusion trio)
Wrong And Strong
Beyond The Bridge
Other things now that I can't be bothered to compile lists...
Stanley Clarke-School Days
Stanley Clarke-Stories To tell
Stanley Clakre-If This Bass Could Only Talk
Stanley Clarke-Bassically Taps
Jonas Hellborg-It's The Pits, Slight Return
Level 42-Mr Pink
Thats enough for now!
