does sonic and mesa boogie use EV drivers? i know mesa boogie use to and ive read that sonic uses EVs in some of their cabs. i wanna know if both companies use them in all their cabs cause im lookin for a new cab and EVs are the best sounding speakers ive ever heard/played thru. thanx
Older Boogie cabs have EV's. For instance, my two year old 2x15 Road Ready has EV's. The new ones are not EV's, however.
Funny. I picked up a Sonic 15" cab at a yard sale for free and it has an EV speaker in it. I've never even heard of this company before. Actually, I haven't even tested this cab out yet.
Do they? Are you sure? I know they USED to use EV anyway. I've seen EV written in catalogs and stuff. But I could be wrong. I've been wrong once or twice in my life. Oh well, Ampeg cabs still rock.
Sonic is a smaller company, located in Cudahy, Wisconsin. They specialize in guitar, bass and PA cabinets, dance hall systems and cases. I have used and abused their 6x10 (700 watts RMS with their SCF200 upgrade ) for about two or three years now. Their service could be improved and the quality of their product isn't all I expected it to be, but overall I think their stuff is pretty good. Their web address is www.sonicspeaker.com. EDIT: Right from their own website: Sonic uses "components from RCF, Radian, Selenium, and our own SCF Series..."
Yeah, Ampeg uses Eminence and Mesa does not use them anymore. Mesa now uses PAS (same as SWR). At one point, Mesa also used Eden speakers.
