So im stripping my black classic 50's p, I like sonic blue and I like anodized pg's..

I ordered up my reranch supplies and will be doing the bass in sonic blue.

Question, would this color combo ever of came from the fender factory? with a maple neck no less?

I have never seen this combo on a p-bass before, i think it will look great.

Anyone ever seen this color combo before? or somthing close?

Never seen it, but that doesn't mean one never slipped out of the factory that way. With Fender there were so many one-offs and slip-ups it could be "period correct" and most people wouldn't know it.

+1 on the anodized pickguard. I'm almost finished with a build that involves a maple neck and gold pg on a vintage white P body.

+1 on the vintage white too, I was almost ready to pull the trigger on that color, but Sonic blue just keeps haunting me for some reason. And i havent seen one in SB with the gold pg..

FWIW, I LOVE sonic blue. In fact, I can't believe I haven't used it yet myself (I do have Daphne Blue on both a Mustang and a Musicmaster). Might be one of the coolest colors ever. I'm pretty curious to see what the gold pg looks like on there, though. Keep us posted!

It wouldn't be period correct as Sonic Blue wasn't offered by Fender until 1960 any by then P-basses came with rosewood fingerboards and the gold pickguards were gone. But, who cares, it should look really good!

Yeah, I like that. Nice look. The blue should maybe be slightly more blue to be sonic.......

  12. It certainly looks "period" '50s, even if it's not "correct".

Go for it, it looks FANTASTIC :hyper: !!!!

The pic was originally Surf Green. I changed the hue a bit to get close to Sonic Blue. Although, there are many shades of Sonic Blue depending on age (ie: thickness of color coar, fading, yellowing of clear coat, etc). I personally prefer a more pale shade. I think it's pretty close anyway.

    compare to this strat.

yep, that'll work! going to be ALOT different than the same old black p-bass.
I cant wait to get this thick poly finish off the body!

Cant say enough about the mim classic 50's too, its the first bass I have ever owned that dosent need a thing changes on it, the pickups are really great, nice vintage tone, but can get really agressive if need be,.

the neck, the hardware, etc.. all nice.
going nitro on the body and keeping the neck poly works for me too, I find that nitro can start feeling hot and sticky on the neck.

OK, better. I like it, but not my fav on that color. Prolly cream perloid would be my fav on sonic blue.

The sonic (light) blue color with (anodized) gold is very much a 1950's (and even 1940's) color combination. However, I doubt Fender produced any 57-59 P-basses in that color.

IMHO, it looks great and has a terrific Retro vibe, nonetheless.

That blue is gonna be real sweet on that bass, also I agree about the nothing being changed thing. I own one of these in fiesta red. I know the geddy is the official best kept secret in fenderdom, but for me the 50's P just takes the cake in value.
