Need some expert opinions. Been playing a few years and consider myself an intermediate player. I like fingerpicking and slapping. Ive always owned low-end basses and am tired of loud, boomy E's and lousy playability above the 12th fret. I want that great 'boingy' sound and something more playable. Im leaning towards buying a Rick or MM. The catch is I dont want, or have room for, a large expensive setup. I dont have access to these finer basses locally, So my question is: Is great or good sound achievable by plugging a quality bass directly into an Ampeg B-50? or should I stick to my ErgodyneEDB-500 since Im not willing to upgrade my setup? Would an OPL-MM be a noticeable sound improvement and more sensable purchase? Ive read the mixed reviews on OPL's. Advice greatly appreciated.

    Hi!

OLP's are ok but I'd search out a nice preowned real stingray. It's a bass you can keep and play indefinately

There's a Ray 5 (if 5's are your thing) on Bassgear.com for $600 right now. If it's in the condition described on the site, it's a smokin' deal.

  4. I think buying used is a great option. check bassgear and the for sale forum here. I have gotten several great deals there.

I think you would notice an improvement in your sound if you got a different speaker set-up. mabey a 2X10 or something. 15" speakers just get a little boomy.

the ampeg b-50r is a 12 inch speaker not a 15. that is the b-100r if thats the amp you were talking about. I would also say go used on the stingray.
