Source Audio C4 Synth

  1. I don't always post New Pedal Days, but I recently went down an envelope filter rabbit hole and amongst the field of contenders, the C4 won. "Gosh, mister, all I wanted was an envelope filter". I didn't realize I would have a religious experience. This thing is blowing my mind and maybe I'm new to the game, but this thing is a literal memory bank of tone.

There is a moderate learning curve and use of the PC/Mac/iOS/Android app is required to tap into its potential, but the the pay-off is REAL.

  2. Just finished plotting my pedal board. I've also finally found a practical use for PowerPoint that isn't a yawn inducing presentation. My trick is measuring everything and scaling it down by 1/2. Then just "Tetris" it out.

  3. Finished this the other day and I think it's about as good as it could get for me. This is a lot of pedals for me and I only use them when appropriate.

I just discovered the C4 earlier today and I'm gassing hard, but my real question is where did you find the large stomp switch covers?

  5. Reverb & Sweetwater. They're called Barefoot Buttons.

Cool thanks! I'll check them out.

  7. Here's a setting I adjusted from a Neuro Hub community setting. The C4 has a learning curve but there is simply no other pedal quite like it.

    Hey RT, nice board!

Now you need a midi switch, like the D.M.C. Micro, to unleash that C4. ;)

Thanks for the link. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the C4. I had an EH Bass Micro Synth years ago. but the C4 seems light years beyond. How do you find the tracking to be?

Nice board. I have been wiling away free time with the Source EQ2 and the C4 with the Neuro Hub and a MIDI call switch. Heck, there's a pandemic thingy so free time is abundant. I like the envelope options and octave options more every day. I also still use my analog fuzz and modulation pedals but there are some great alien invasion fuzz sounds in the C4.

  11. Tracking is spot-on and can be adjusted in the Neuro Hub app. I would download the app just to see what settings are available (spoiler alert: a lot).

You can prioritize the tracking, so to speak.

  13. I do it by limiting the tracking to the pitch range of a 4 string and setting the sensitivity to maximum. I change that in all the community settings that I download.

I use a DMC Micro. It's what I bought and it fits on my board. If you are only switching the C4 it only takes a few minutes to set up and DMC has a really clear step by step video on YouTube.
Having that call switch lets you tap to 128 presets so you can use your phone hand for drinking!

  16. Another trick I do is to dime my instrument volume (to engage filters) and then follow the C4 with a limiter pedal to reign in the volume spike.

Some of my favourite user presets on the video below - this may be of use to some of you thinking about purchasing the pedal. Thanks.

I can't say enough about Source Audio. The stuff they're doing is really out there, but so compelling. I have owned five of their effect pedals, two of which are still on my board today. The Aftershock beat out my B3k and Agro- both of which are very good. And the C4 is almost a must-have Swiss army knife of a pedal. Sometimes I just kick it on to get all Human League with it. So much fun.

So... after a couple weeks of playing around with my C4 - downloading sounds, swapping them in and out, playing with settings, etc. - I thought I had my C4 ready for its first gig. I unplugged it to put velcro on the bottom, put it back on the board... and no sounds. Nothing. Just plain old bass tone. Doesn't matter if the pedal is engaged on bypassed, or what position the switch is in.

    What the heck?
