space in cabinets

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Davidoc, Jun 25, 2001.

  1. what's with the cabs that have 2 10s on bottom, two more on top, and space in the middle?

  2. That would be the bass port.

  3. Thanks for the reply... what does that mean/do?

  4. The bass port turns the cab into a resonator. The port resonates at the point where the speakers begin to roll off, extending the bass response of the total system.

In other words: it makes the cab's sound much lower.

They come in all shapes & sizes & numbers, and can be either in the front, or on the back side. Most of them are flanged round tubes, mounted in the front.

  5. Thanks for the info. New concept for me!
