    What a sad day...

    :( :( :( :(

  3. My kids and I witnessed it. We were watching it fly over Dallas when there were suddenly several pieces. I thought it was just normal re-intry. Then we watched as it flashed and got very bright. And then what I thought was a sonic boom.

    What a day...

    :(

"On launch day, a piece of insulating foam on the external fuel tank came off during liftoff and was believed to have struck the left wing of the shuttle. Leroy Cain, the lead flight director in Mission Control, had assured reporters Friday that engineers had concluded that any damage to the wing was considered minor and posed no safety hazard."

    Hmm...

Oh, man... are your kids OK with seeing it, Jeff? How old are they?

  6. They are 7 and 9. The older one is pretty shaken. We didn't realize what we were watching.

  10. New information says that the flight over Texas is during a critical portion of re-entry. At 200,000 feet, the shuttle is still in it's heating stage in the upper atmosphere and that any deviation from the prescribed path or angle of re-entry will cause a catastrophe. That appears to be what happened here.

I'm reliving the past (Apollo, Challenger) :(

God bless the family and friends of the crew, God bless the members of NASA especially Mission Control, and God bless America.

    horrible. horrible. horrible.

The symbolism of all of this comes at a very bad time. Time to think about that later, though. My thoughts are with the friends and families of the astronauts.

All reports i'm seeing now are saying that the possibility of it being a terrorist attack is very unlikely.
    1) If it had been a sabotage before liftoff, it would have broken up in the takeoff.
    2) The Israeli wouldn't do it... we love Israel.

I'm just really hoping everyone who is still screaming terrorism slows down and examines all the information before we launch into any irreversible action.

My thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of those lost.

I just heard a report saying that they're finding human remains near the Texas/Louisiana border.

Prayers for all involved...what a crisis.

I'm having flashbacks to my high school class when the Challenger tragedy happened.

Jeff--I hope your kids are ok after seeing that.
