I tried this and a Saturn VI, but I think the Saturn fits my needs more, but this pedal sounds so dang good. For those with tubes amps, setting to the edge of breakup, this pedal will push you into some nice tube overdrive. will this get some overdrive on its own at high gain settings or is it used to overdrive stuff downstream?
the only way I’ve gotten overdrive with this is putting it in front of a tube amp set at the edge of breakup. Anything less than that, this will act more of a volume/harmonic booster. It does make my tone better, but certainly louder.
It boosts the harmonic content of your tone. Makes it just "clearer" and you can hear more subtleties.
Totally depends on the amp and where your gain is set. If you have a tube amp close to gain, max will push it into overdrive. if you have a solid state amp with low gain, it will still be clean and this will just make it louder.
