I love that fretboard, what is that?

 

If I remember right, the fingerboard is birdseye maple with a black stain.

 

You are mostly correct. It's a transparent black finish over the Birdseye Maple. From 10 ft away hardly even noticeable. Up close it's like Birdseye Ebony???

The back is transparent black on the Ash body and a fade on the neck:

 

That type of Spalting always reminds me of Edvard Munch:

 

Birdseye ebony would be cool. The black stained birdseye maple does look really cool.
