Picked up one of these from Sweetwater several weeks ago. Never owned a StingRay before in my life. Boy... have I been missing out. Quick pampering at the spa, and off to rattling some booties
I don`t think I am a big fan of 34-inch scale 5-strings, but the Music Man basses seem to have a good one and you can`t go wrong with the HH pickup configuration either (I picked one up in the summer, but a 4-string). Enjoy that bass. You are already well on your way to doing that based on those videos!
Thanks man. I’m quite impressed with these basses, I have to say. I pretty much always ignored MusicMan as a company up until very recently when they revamped the StingRays. B string is definitely no slacker on this. Congrats on your purchase as well! I agree, the switch selector on the HH’s is a blast to have. Each configuration sounds distinctly different.
Congratulations, Martian bassist. A lot of people love Musicman basses, and a lot do not. I think there's also a good number who write them off for whatever reason, but when they finally try one, they realize what they've been missing. Enjoy, and welcome to the Ernie Ball family. Mine below.
I was exactly that person. Just wrote them off for years. Primarily because of how abundant they are at GC and the few I tried off the wall were just atrocious. Getting a fresh one and setting it up appropriately is really a great experience so far. Super cool Ray in black. Yours looks menacing
Thank you, Martianbassist. When I bought mine in 2001, I wanted sunburst, but it would have taken two weeks to arrive. I bought the Black one, and it quickly grew on me. It plays so nice. Mike
That's a beautiful bass. I switched over to mostly all music man basses a few years ago when I first got my sr5. I've since picked up 4 stingrays this year:
2 weeks isn’t an awful long time wait, you didn’t prefer to wait for the burst? Either way you can never go wrong with black
Now that’s what I call drool worthy! Yeah, I remember seeing your BFR Stingray earlier, it hurts to look at that thing it’s so pretty I’m still eating my heart out they haven’t offered it in 5 string configuration but the aqua sparkle isn’t lagging too far behind Full collection of MusicMan’s is a sweet idea! Just gotta add one of those discontinued Cutlass P basses and you should be good to go. Those look super cool!
Oh I've definitely thought about getting either a cutlass or a caprice for just that reason. They don't seem to be too easy to find where I am though.
The Cutlass looks sick I’d definitely love to try it. Care to list off all the models you have currently?
Well hopefully I’ll help break your last reserves of resistive will-power haha With the abundance of these basses everywhere, TB is practically a MM dealer at this point Getting a “as new” Stingray Special for $1500-1600 is an absolute steal.
Sure, I don't mind at all. Here's the current list of MM basses I have: Stingray Special HH (Feb. 2019 BFR) Stingray Special HH (July 2020 BFR) Stingray Special H Fretless (Oct. 2019 BFR) Stingray Old Smoothie (2019) - Butterscotch Bongo 6 (2009) - Egyptian Smoke Stingray 5 - (2010) - True Gold
When you're all set to take something home, two weeks is a long time to me. Plus, the all black grew on me very quickly. Mike.
if youre referring to that fretless stingray, EBMM actually did come out with a 5 string version of it. Ernie Ball Music Man BFR StingRay Special 5 H Fretless Bass Guitar - Vintage Sierra Burst
Was referring to the sparkly pink one he got. I was in the market right when they released that BFR model, but only as a 4 string. I was set on a sparkle finish and was gonna get the Aqua Sparkle regardless, but seeing that sparkle pink Ray being offered only as 4 string right before I was about to pull the trigger was a huge heartache
