I have p bass with Seymour Dunca SPB-2(hot for p bass).I want to add J pickup on the bridge and thinking to put Dimarzio Ultra jazz, becaouse its hum canceling.SPB-2 is about 22Kohms and Ultra jazz onlu about 8.5.I am afraid that sound will much be quieter when both pickups are full open then only P?And Ultra jazz is ceramic and SPB-2 alnico,so does it affect sound?

the ultra would be louder than the model J, so your first idea is probably better.

it still won't be nearly as loud as the P pickup, but it's not supposed to be; the J is just there to "color" the P pickup, adding some treble and scooping out mids when you bring it in.

when you're looking at the dimarzio specs, ignore the DC resistance and check the "output" number; that tells you how much actual volume the pickups have relative to each other.
