I have an old 18" Music man speaker cabinet. I don't know much about these things. The only thing wrong with the speaker is the cone is split. I am looking at a peavy 18"on ebay. Are the magnets inerchangeable?

If the existing speaker has a split cone, all it needs is a re-cone. It usually works out cheaper than buying a new speaker, and you end up with a speaker designed for the cab. Remember that speakers need to operate in the correct size cab to sound their best, and every 18" speaker out there will require a different size cab and porting. It can get complicated.

If you can get your hands on the Thiele Small Parameters for the Peavey speaker, we can run some calsc to see how it will go in yout existing cab.
