Speaker replacement question

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by PhatBoi5, May 26, 2001.

  1. I have an SWR Bigfoot 2x12 that now has been replaced with peavey Black Widows. I hate them. I was thinking about getting some Carvin's to replace them. Now heres my question. The specs of the Carvin lists 38hz as the low freq. reponse. But my Bigfoot is tuned to go 30Hz, I believe. If I put those Carvins in do I get my cabs 30Hz or the speakers 38Hz as a low end number?
  2. You appear to be guessing, and that will most likely lead to poor results.

You need to determine the cabinet internal volume, and the tuning frequency of the cabinet. Once known, you can match drivers to cabinet.

Q: why not use the drivers that were OEM in this cabinet?

SWR can advise you what to get. I assume they are using either Eminence or Bag End drivers. Call or email them for their advice. This beats guessing.

Accordin' to the Bigfoot manual, it uses a couple of
BagEnd 12" drivers and the freq response is spec'd
-3dB at 40Hz. Those Carvins should be O.K. Just
be sure and double-check their power handlin' and
    Ω's rating.
