Speakers for a 4x10" on a budget.

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Hellbastard, Sep 25, 2008.

  1. Hey guys, I've been thinking about buying some speakers for a 4x10" cab I had made a couple of years ago.
The options I'm looking to are:
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/55-1740 which from the search I made are an onexpensive alternative to Eminence Beta 10s
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/55-1300 since I've always wanted to try aluminium cone speakers.
Now the questions are which ones would work better on a cab which dimensions are:
    H: 21"
    W: 21"
    D: 13 1/2"

Using WinISD and the box volume of your cab, (2.64Ft3) assuming it is made w/ 3/4" material, you could put 4 of the 55-1740 MCM 10's in your box unported or ported and you would end up w/ the same F3, so porting would not get you much. Both end up w/ an F3 of roughly 90-94 Hz. they have descent excursion so that might help. seems that your box is a bit small for 4 of these drivers, keeping any more extension to the low end from happening.
  3. The cab is made of 3/4" plywood. The cab is sealed and it's got a port in the middle of 4" of diameter and 3 3/4" of depth.
I have this ca made after the This
Little I knew that the circle in the middle was actually a horn.
So, would this port affect the cab?
Or should I also place a horn in the middle?
I'm looking to get 8ohm out of this cab.

    Thank you in advance
