saw a clip on u-tube , he's got big block of something , taped like crazy , between the bridge and pickup, and gets great tone playing off the ??? on his fretless p-bass . great music , anyway . anyone else using ramps in the late '70s ? i'm going ramp crazy and realized that i absolutely need one. i think i'll go with black delrin to match my ebony board. here's the clip... the ramp can be seen up close @1:15 . i've seen the movie 50 times , never noticed it until i saw it on a teeny computer stream . anyone seen the roxy movie yet?
I always thought there must be some kind of pickup in that thing under all that tape, because notice the extra knobs and switches. I've inquired about it before on more than one forum and was ignored every time. I'm anxiously awaiting the official release of the Roxy footage.
Yeah, I've wondered about that tape, too. I was thinking it covers either an extra pickup, or a wireless unit; I didn't see any threads about it before, or else I'd have posted in them.
I thought a ramp is an extension from the finger board, to ensure proper plucking technique. That thing is at the bridge, probably covering a pick up or something. Who knows what was going on back in the old days, synth PU, wireless, early piezo???
whatever it is he's playing on top of it , as one would a ramp. when i finish fabbing my delrin ramp(s) , i'll have one at the bridge , and between the 2 pickups on my 'vette .
