    I'm in with a kit build entry.......

Absolutely no experience in the constructing or finishing properly of anything.....Ever!...

My plan is to create a P type bass that is aimed at being used exclusively for slide bass...

I'm off to a slow start due to having no work space sorted out to build it in!....:rollno:....

Fear not!...A mountain of gear is turning up slowly but surely...Got half of a workbench delivered today........

    Thanks for watching....

Honestly, no....not really.....I was more inspired by both Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside.....

Don't think that slide bass appears on either of their recordings though........

It was their..."We're gonna do OUR thing approach that I'm attracted to and I intend to have great fun finding out if I can make something work...

I think that if I could inspire one genuine  from a collection of guys with the talent that you lot have, then it will have been worth every penny of the 2 billion that it's cost to get going...so far....

Ah the "kit"... it all started with a kit. My middle boy wanted his own bass, so we got a kit. Of course I needed a sander to help.with finishing it. And you know it had a paddle headstock, so might as well buy a band saw right?
After the kit I thought , well I have a sander and a saw, let's build one from scratch. Oh waite I need a planer to do that $$$ No problem, every new project needs a new tool, that's house rules.
The next bass required a router table, and that's also when I discovered the greatness of the shinto rasp...

But don't worry Freddy, this stuff isn't addictive at all. Just give it a try, it's easy

So....Let's get where I am so far....

But first....A HUGE thanks to both @Jon Clegg and @Passinwind for their encouragement and help......

    The FreakBass.....:hyper:....

I understand that the luthier types usually do the "Pile of wood shot" before they start....

Well....My first mistake has already been committed.....
I did the headstock shape first and THEN remembered the woodpile thingy....

    So...The Woodpile....:woot:...

    Seems to have passed inspection...

    The first cut....

Really tried NOT to do a headstock that I was familiar with....Fender etc...so...

    What do you think?....
Having done it, (used the lid of a Le Creuset casserole to do the curves)......

Now it's done, it occurs to me that I've basically done an "Inline" version of the bloomin' K Bass stock...:roflmao:......Oh well.....:wideyed:....

    Well, It's French....Classy innit?.....

    [IMG]MUCH sanding to do....:wideyed:

Make sure that your workshop conforms to all OSHA regulations. You'll need to be fully trained and certified, maintain safety compliance documentation, expect periodic inspections, etc. in order to avoid being shut down.

My pants, well, I might as well wear a haz mat suit 24-7. Good luck with the build. Sounds like fun!
