I am traveling for a gig and have to provide a list of the gear want rented for me.

I usually use a 300-400 watt amp like a Little Mark III or Ampeg SVT-400T with two 15" cabs.

I want to be somewhat generic, but also make sure I wind up with something that will serve my needs.

I was thinking about just saying: "Bass Amp with 300W or more of power (like MarkBass Little Mark III, Little Mark 800, Fender Rumble 800, or similar) and either two 15" speaker cabinets or an Ampeg SVT 810 or similar"

Do you think this will get me a decent set up? Am I giving them enough flexibility?

I've had riders specifically request SVT + 810

Then had the company supply a Behringer 1x12 combo and a DI box.

My suggestion is shoot for the stars. You don't have to use all the firepower provided, but you can't hunt bison with a daisy pistol.

I hope times have changed! Positive vibes your way....

With occasional exceptions, the vast majority of gear you will have to choose from backline rental companies is from Ampeg, GK, Hartke, or Eden. Some might have Aguilar or Mesa as well, but beyond that it's luck whether they'll have it. Micro heads are very uncommon, too. Most cabs will be 410's (most common),115's (not as common but usually available), and Ampeg 810's. They'll usually charge more for an SVT and 810, but they all have them and it's not your headache, is it? :D

If you want to do the "don't make waves" request, any pro-level 300w or better head and a 410 or 115. But if you don't ask for it, you might have been able to get it and you'd never know it, so I'd say make whatever rig you want your first choice and make the "don't make waves" request your backup.

Depends on the gig. I've been supplied similar. Did the gig, too. What else can you do?

Our rider just stipulates a high power head with a least a 4/10 cab, and like Jimmy mentioned it is usually a Ampeg, SWR, GK etc. But like Jimmy also said, just last month I ended up with a little combo. I always go through the house so not that big a deal, I just tell the soundman to add a little more of me in my monitor.

Well, I think I did OK here. Just got email that they got me an Ampeg SVT VR and an Orange 8x10.

thanks to all for the suggestions and advise.

My only advice, is to be specific. I was in a band years ago that played Community Days for a township. The person who hired said, 'yes we have a PA, you don't need to bring yours'. The "PA" was literally one megaphone...….

I’ve read specs that say Ampeg 410 and SVT head only to arrive and find a Ampeg 108. Whatcha gonna do? If it’s a road trip I usually keep a 210 and LM2 handy, but flying, well try not to overload it and not look too pissed.

Orange isn't common but I think you'll be happy with it.

EXCELLENT advice! Yes, you do need to be specific, especially about monitor mixes if you require more than one.

  11. This is why I always take my preferred class D amp in my bag.

In my new gig in the production company’s, one of my duties is advancing the production needs of the visiting bands, usually national acts. That includes the backline needs as well.

This year, I saw probably half of the backline riders specifying whatever bass cabinet was preferred, but stating “we bring the bass amp/head”.

    Definitely a trend.

Well, I asked for a head, but am planning on bringing my Little Mark in my carry on.
