    Here they are! Comments? Suggestions?

Conklin 8 String bass (Low F# to high F)
    Sidewinder body style
    Bolt-on neck
    Hollowbody construction 3"
    34" scale
Gold Hardware with Q-Parts abalone pearl capped knobs
    Maple / Wenge Neck
    Dragonwood body
Deep, Deep, DEEP Wine red sparkle finish
    Fixed Bass Bridge
    Conklin Signature Pups
    24 frets
Maple fretboard (subtle flame, no inlay)
    Hipshot Ultralite tuners
    Carved Top
    Demeter 3 band preamp
    Standard Case

What I'd like is to have it built so that later on I can send it back
and have it upgraded with a piezo bridge and MIDI driver. Probably be
better just to get it all done now, but I desperately need to upgrade
    my amp setup also.

Awaiting final quote from Bill, and will probably be putting the order in sometime next month.

    a few things...

    1. make sure you specify the nut spacing to be what you want it to be - i don't think the spacing at the nut on your 8 is the standard spacing, but a bit tighter like i get on mine.

    2. how about a fretless? :)

    3. get the maple board bound with purple heart - that would look awesome with the red finish.

    or...

    4. it would look _super cool_ if you got the whole bass painted the same deep color - red w/sparkles, including the neck and the fretboard. sorta like bill dickens' white bass. the painted fingerboard and neck and all would look incredible, very unique. i don't think bill has done that on any bases yet other than billy's white one.

    5. q-parts has red-capped pearl knobs that would also look really cool.

    6. be sure to specify the depth of the hollowbody - either 2 inches or 3 inches.

    7. i would suggest that you get everything done to this bass that you can all at once - if you want it to have the midi, i _strongly_ suggest that you figure out a way to make it happen now, as opposed to doing it in two steps.

As always John, thanks for your input.

Yeah, when I sent the specs to Bill I specified that I wanted the same nut spacing as on my first 8, the ones you suggested that I liked so much.

My GT-7F with the added Aggie 3 band pre is doing a great job for now. However, I REALLY want a fretless hollowbody!! I got word from Bill that he's considering adding a hollowbody option to the New Century line. Gonna wait and see what all he's changing in the line and might consider one of those. Maybe he'll include an 8 string in the new line also. If not, maybe I can sweet-talk him and send him chocolates.

Think I like the first suggestion better... Bill D's white one is beautiful but personallt, I like some contrast.

I saw those. I'm still waffling between the two styles... It really depends on how the finish comes out. But it'll be a while before the addition of the hardware happens, so I have a little time to make up my mind. Once again, I was thinking about color contrasts like the turquoise (sp) caps you're getting on your 8s.

    3" BABY!!! :D

I know that would probably be best. I'm gonna look at the finances very carefully after I get the amp situation remedied. Once the order is placed, Im gonna ask Bill to contact me when he starts to get the electronics together. If possible, I'll go ahead and have everything done. If not, I'll try at least to get the piezo bridge installed.

  4. As always, should be another amazing instrument out of the Conklin shop! The specs sounds great Mark, and the Maple and Wenge is a great idea IMHO.

Sounds Killer! I can't wait to see the color! I hear ya on the contrast... but Damn JT, all Deep sparklin Red with just gold hardware would be wicked :bassist:

Maybe I'll borrow that idea for my next fretted bass ;) .... ahhhh GAS is a wonderfully wreched thing :D

another thing you might want to consider for your neck is wenge and purple heart for the neck, with a maple board with purpleheart binding, like the fretted neck on my doubleneck. can you say "snappy" and "deep" in the same sentence, boys and girls? :D

So would you say that 8 is 'your' instrument?

John says his is 7, and I'm assuming you'll say 8 is yours... I might have to go 9, just to one up all of you :D

I'm really satisfied with the 7. An 8 would be cool (especially to your specs... can you say GORGEOUS?!), but I think 7 is where it's at for me.

  14. You say that now, but just wait when you get a little older and can spend all your earnings on new basses. :D ;)

    Cheers

  15. HAHAH good one man:)

    Mark, you are on fire!

What I want to know is where are all the people who should be giving you flak for spending way too much on all these conklins? This is Talkbass isn't it? ;) :D

Mark, I really like JT's suggestion about the purpleheart FB binding, but what about Bloodwood? That might look even better with the wine red finish. And maybe Bloodwood pickup covers, rather than the ebony that's on your 8 now.

  19. You don't need any more Conklins.
But congrats anyway!! I wish I had one.

  20. just hearing you guys talk about this is like free porn..:D
I can't wait to see how your next 8 string is gonna come out, your last one is such a beauty, and sounds heavenly..
