Hey guys, sent my NS-2a Artist (1 of 1 with the US bridge afaik) to Wilkins for a shiny new white dress. My brass nut is pretty poor fitting....there was someone here who had a line on brass nuts that fit a 2a. Anyone know? Bueller? Bueller????

Sweet. How much did it cost if you don't mind me asking? Did you just send the bass down complete or did you take it apart first?

Beautiful! I had a zebra wood euro once. Regret letting that one go.....
Nice! You don't see many of these around. Lots of Zebops, but little Zeuros :D.

I've always wanted a matte Zebrawood Euro. I wonder if you can even get Zebrawood NS2s, you never see those. In fact, I don't see many new Zebrawood basses at all, anymore.

I wonder. I bet they'd make just about anything you wanted. I don't see why they're not more popular. Personally I find the zebra wood more cool looking than the burl tops. Unfortunately the one I had was damaged in shipping and had a pretty gnarly spiderweb type crack in the clear coat next to one of the volume knobs. It always irritated me so I moved it.

Wanted to post that here too: always glad that I discovered Spectors years ago. Will always be my first choice. Here’s my rig from last Friday night’s show. (Not pictured: IEM system so that I can hear myself on stage)

Just ordered a purple Spector NS Dimension HP 5 from Chris at Ish Guitars! In stock! 9.5 pounder!
Just like the one on the YT video! WooHoo! Be here in a week! Chris is the guy on the right.
Very accommodating! Thanks MOM! Wish you didn't have to die at 72, but I'm 70. I guess we all have our limits.
You bought me a 2021 Chrysler Pacifica to haul it around in too!
And I was asked to play in a band this morning!!! WOOT! We'll see...
Now I can get my Variax 705 fixed, and my Ibanez's too!
Eric at Eric's Guitars here in L.A. San Fernando Valley does awesome luthier and tech work.
Has a very impressive client list. Not me, I'm just a soundman for 50 years. What do I know?

Hey Spector crew,

I have been meaning to post this up for ages but due to confidence issues I avoided it but it was too much fun and such a cool process that I am getting over my stuff and doing it. My original goal was to get a Spector Euro 4 as I am a HUGE Alice In Chains fan and wanted to emulate Mike Starr's incredible tone. I had owned a Euro LX5 in the past and I mainly play 6's but wanted to get the PJ Spector to get it close. Anyway after some muck arounds I ended up getting a new Euro Lx4 which is great!

I reached out to Lonnie @AgingEngineer after reading his very cool thread https://www.talkbass.com/threads/reverse-engineering-vintage-haz-labs-pre.1558894/ asking to maybe try and see if he would send me a PCB to try and build one to put in a Spector.

Lonnie was super keen to help and sent me a populated board and a few PCB's to try out (at an awesome price). If you read the thread you can see how thorough and serious he takes this so I got some great instructions and support to get it all done. Finding parts was a bit of a challenge in Australia but finally got the job done.

To make it more fun I recorded the bass with the Tonepump and then the HAZ replica or LHZ as it is called now. Anyway I will put the clips up here for a bit of a comparison but please preface that I did this for fun and to help give a bit more clarity for myself around the differences in tone between the two preamps.

This first is the unprocessed straight bass with both pick and fingers:

A=LHZ B=Tonepump
Super subtle and I was impressed by the Tonepump but once you hit it with some gear and especially some nice tubes trust me the grit of the LHZ is way more apparent.

One day I will pony up and buy a real NS2 but I am not there yet so doing this project was super satisfying and I absolutely love the LHZ. With the new gear I have acquired it sounds way way better now as this was all done digitally but I will post my final version of the LHZ best version using plugins with a classic AIC song with bass removed (as much as possible using MOISES). I am very inexperienced with recording tones and I was quite anxious sharing something so important to me but letting go of that stuff and just enjoying the process is so important.

Thanks @AgingEngineer you are a legend Lonnie! I was very proud to be the first Beta tester.

Need to record now with some real tubes I was literally had tears when I tried this bass through my Ashdown BTA400 it was the sweetest tone I had ever heard!

Sounds great man! You should post Vid with great audio like that!!!

First thing out of the gate: EXCELLENT TONE AND PLAYING!

Second, I'll echo AB Nate's comment that you should post a video with great audio like that. Seriously, I know how easy it is to be hyper-critical of one's self to the point of paralysis (my life story right there). However, the reality is that no-one else notices those little details we worry over. Take a bow: well done!!

I appreciate the write up, and your willingness to take a change and experiment with an as-yet-to-be-named and untested Haz clone. You, then fibz shortly after, were the first two players to give the LHZ a thorough workout. That interest was all it took to push me out of my shell to take a chance, and am really happy I did.

So... how about some videos next?

As others have said, fire up some video and get this on YouTube! Your playing sounds great and the bass sounds fantastic.

Well, your first report which I stumbled over by just googling (don’t know what the search term was) sounded great and I thought, „meh, why not try?“ glad I did.

It's funny, I was a long-time Queensryche and Alice in Chains fan, but was more of a guitarist back in the day and only dabbled on bass, so I was happy enough with my Peavey Fury P bass, and then later a Fender J. I didn't really care for bass gear or what basses were played on my favorite albums.

Took a loooong break from playing guitar, then when I started up again, decided I would focus more on bass so I joined Talkbass, which led to "discovering" Spector :D.

It was an aesthetics thing; I fell in love with the look. I had already gotten into Ibanez Soundgears which had the fully rounded, small body look with active EQ (they are very much Spector-influenced, which no one ever brings up).

But then I saw a Spector, kind of like the Soundgear but more rounded, plus that incredible back curve. Then I realized that, DOH, they were on some of my favorite albums or played by bassists I liked, so it was a no-brainer. AND, they were from my hometown of NY :).

Mike Starr, Dave Ellefson, and more. My OG band was into heavy metal before it was called heavy metal. Man the bass gear was weak back then. I never got the SVT I wanted back then. I wound up selling my P bass (for coke) and was a soundman for decades. Did a lot of monitor gigs, toured, ran and managed the Palace sound system(Hollywood across from Capitol Records). Los Lobos, Tierra, Bonnie, Stevie RaveOn, etc. Had a ball mixing for people that really knew how to lay it down. It was the addiction that brought it all down.
