SPECTOR® Owners Club

well, i bought a red performer 4 to keep my NS pulse company. it's not as comfortable for ye olde right shoulder, but i like it. playing some performer 4 basses at sam ash was what first got me interested in spectors. the neck on this thing is sweet!

however when it arrived (new) with light strings, the bridge was slightly lifted. ariex screwed it down when he changed the strings to d'addario super lights, the bridge was flat against the body, but hours later, it had bent upward slightly from in front of the screws we've been measuring, and it hasn't bent any further in the past 24 hours, but i admit it makes me a bit uneasy...
For me that would warrant a return. Otherwise you eventually will be looking at fixing it (dowel inserts, redrilling).

Any Spector with EMG DC's and a tone pump or a hazlab clone will get this tone, it's pretty much hitting the nail on the head for 'that spector tone'

That blue NS5 looks amazing in stage lights, I've seen it that model before in pictures that don't do it justice.
+1.

Her sound is probably one of the most straightforward examples of direct Spector tone, and the way they mix her you can really hear what it sounds like.

Ale's tone = NS-5XL + EMG 40DCX + 18V HAZ + Darkglass B3K v.1 + Aguilar ToneHammer + Elvis Snarl + Hair Flip :laugh::bassist:
So do you think I would be able to get such tone with my Spector Legend with EMG DC with replaced Preamp to LHZ? Would there be any advantage in tone coming from the wood of Rebop, NS Pulse or Ethos? I don't have a budget for Euro at this moment.

Again, how to achieve that sound? I find it very hard to achieve on my Ampeg BA210. I am also having MXR D.I. +

The LHZ will help. It has that unique overdrive that the HAZ pre has. If you look at the LHZ website there is a technical description of what that is and why it happens:

The tone in that video has a bunch of low mid range in it. That likely comes from the signal chain (pedals, amp, mixer settings, etc.)

The Legend has the pickups in a different position than a USA or Euro. EMG DC + LHZ preamp would get you closer, but it won’t produce the same result. How much of a difference it’ll make I can’t say as I’ve never personally tried a Legend myself.

As for the tone itself, it sounds like an NS-5 through a DI with a bit of EQ from FOH. It's the sound I hear through my IEM and I can get something similar through a Mesa Subway that's set pretty neutral. Through an Ampeg it starts to take on a more coloured sound.

Last piece of the puzzle is her picking position. In these songs she tends to pick over the bridge pickup, which gives it a more burpy response than picking towards the neck pickup.

Ale generally plays finger style over the bridge pickup. She does use a pick sometimes and it also sounds great. Check this out.

Right, nearly the entirety of the new album is played with a pick as part of the more in-your-face production of the whole disc. I was on the fan-cam Instagram feed when they premiered "Hell You Call A Dream" and everyone in the chat was going wild over the Spector growl on the verses.

Oh wow, stunning, this finish looks amazing… I hope whoever buys it, plays the crap out of it!

Is Rebop having same pickup placement as Euro?

I am actually looking after a new amp setup. I've been targeting GK 700RB or MB500 or Legacy 500 with older NEO cabs (cheaper) or new CX cabs or even Mesa Powerhouse 210 cab I can get used for decent price. My second option was Mesa Subway or Subway+.

The CX210s are fantastic. I ran a pair of them with a fusion s

Rebop pickup placement is a little closer to the bridge than the Euros. Not as close as the Asian made basses. Original electronics are EMG Hz passive pickups, and I think the preamp was EMG BTS. Bodies are alder, thought there were models with various tops, pretty sure those were the DLX models which had nicer inlays too. The Rebops are generally lighter weight than the Euros.

Hello all, been a Spector owner for about 10 years or so. My wife started it off with a well taken care of used Rebop 5 for my birthday. I play on a worship team and there was a change in the sound team…so my Rebop was decried. I picked up a Spectorcore 5, put flats on it and had the pots rewired(some fool got in there and spliced stuff with wire nuts.) Sound guys happier…Still wasn’t getting the grind I was looking for so I settled(relative…I know.) for an American P bass 5 string. Sound team very happy…I do love that bass and it does have a great neck and very good sound. Then my wife(yes she’s amazing) saw me looking at the Spector Euro 5 cst and told me to just order it(she does LOVE Staind and Godsmack.) I found one that was a demo. Best bass ever! When it showed up I lowered the action, put a set of Thomastik-Infield flats on it(I know, but sound team!) I am very very very happy with the sound and feel. Neck is amazing, very close to the feel of the Pbass. But the low b blows all my other basses out of the water. Glam shots by Sweetwater.

They have a deeper pocket than most for bolt ons. I believe my Rebop(older) has the tone pump pre. It is a very light bass, lighter(at least in feel) than most of my old 4 stringers. The body has great vibration throughout and a good grind to the tone.
