This is a PLAYER not a wall hanger! There are plenty of character marks so I'm not going to try and list them all. There is a paint chip on the neck but it never bothered me. The bass plays and sounds great but for some reason it is wired "wrong". The treble and bass are opposite of what they should be and the volume knobs are opposite as well. I have played the bass live with no issues.
The 15yo in me has always kicked himself for getting a white BC Rich Warlock instead of one of these. It's been 27 years, but I finally got one.
It's in a box on it's way to me. I'm going to crown/refret it, toss in some EMGs, figure out what's up with the preamp, and pretend I'm still 15 trying to hit punky goth broads at Gilman St.
Hello. Great bass! Is the bass still available? If not, could you please update the post. Thanks, JP.
It's sitting in my home office waiting for me to take another run at fixing the preamp. P volume pot is short instead of a long shaft, and J cuts out. There was a schematic that shows the J pickup points are reversed compared to P and jack, I haven't gotten further than slapping a set of EMGs in it and finding them actually getting power without adding a hot leg. Have to figure out the hum. This will be a learning experience.
Even if that pre is shot you got it cheap enough to put in any number of replacements. Keep us posted!
Found this on TB, don't know if it helps https://images.talkbass.com/attachments/9v-circuit-diag2-jpg.286071/ Are you sure the EMGs are getting juice? That doesn't make sense without a hot leg. I wonder if they are essentially running passive without the internal active boosting (I don't know if that is possible or not)
Thanks, that's a variation of another wiring diagram. If you want to spin your head check Google images for K haz preamps and you'll see a lot of different interpretations. Left my multimeter at my buddy's house, but they aren't dead. I'm leaning toward trying out a set of GZRs since I liked swapping out ceramic for Alnico in my Warwick $$. I've wanted one of these since I bought a white Warlock around 1988/89. I literally played one new and the realization I made the wrong choice has haunted me off and on since middle school. I played used 70's Stingrays, back when they were just used, and after I owned them I was over it. This Spector I just fondle a bunch. I've owned 68 Camaros, Chevelles, now I'm scratching my NS-2A itch. I'm older, I can buy a new Spector, but I'm stuck on the one I didn't choose. Luckily, basses don't age like old girlfriends (shudder).
