Did a couple searches and couldnt quite find an answer. I've got a euro spector ns2 with the EMG P/J and Tone Pump configuration. I like the sound I get, but I feel that I need a little more low/low-mid to fill and cut through in my band mix better. I'm considering swapping out the tone pump preamp, but can't decide on what to go with. I was originally thinking the Aguilar obp-3, but am considering one of the nice EMG 3 band ones. Which would compliment the pickups and all maple body best for some solid low end growl. I play in a funk/rock type group, and do a fair amount of slapping. Any suggestions on either of those two preamps, or perhaps another? I'd also like the ability to go into passive if the battery(ies) dies at an inconvenient time.
I replaced the tonepump in my euro with the EMG BQC system. The improvement in sound, clarity, and toneshaping is ten fold. My eq has the varialble midrange control on it and it brings out the midrange tone that this bass has. see my thread.
How does the treble pot work on your Tone Pump pre-amp? How noticeable impact does it have on the sound? The bass pot on my Spector has huge impact on the tone, but the treble knob does almost nothing. Is that normal or time for tech? Thanks!
MY treble pot is +/- 12 db. of boost and cut and is an awesome tone shaping tool. I have four settings for treble ( dip switches) and they are 2 kh, 3 kh, 5 kh, and 8 kh,. The tone pump is inferior to this system.
