Just a note to say I went into Sam Ash in NYC today and they have two Spector Rex basses, one with a holoflash finish. Looks awsome in the photos, but I didnt care much for the finish. I bet it'd look sweet under stage lightening, but not my cup 'o tea. I am probably heading in there next week and hopefully I will have time to get my hands on it and play, and write what I think.

They had a few Spectors there, mostly Korean, but they had an American stashed in the corner. WOW! Thats why I didnt have time to try the Rex :)

  2. on the holoflash, they just got about 8 spectors in a Mars in MA. one is holoflash, i don't know how they take the pics of it on the web but i have looked at it a bunch of times before i even noticed it was holoflash. didn't really stand out like in the photos

I think the black holoflash looks wacky. It's the mutt among a multitude of otherwise beautiful finishes in the Spector line.

I'd take a solid black over the holoflash.

    It's just soooooo.....Winger. :p

I'll bet Kip is in the market for one. Wouldn't he look pretty holding it?;)

Man, I remember I was in high school when their first album came out. Even people who didn't play an instrument were laughing at the videos. I never saw anyone dance around with a bass more than they played it, I'm giggling just thinking about it.

That American one in the corner is Amber, right? I played it a bunch of times & I didn't care for that one. The neck feels really chunky. I've played a bunch of USA & that particular one didn't feel quite right. BUT if you like it, they've had that bass for A LONG, LONG time & they will probably knock off ALOT OF $$$$$ to make room for other guitars!!!!!

I was @ Sam Ash in Carle place last nite & saw the holoflash Rex & I didn't care for it either!!!!

Please stop saying W*nger!!!!! He played Spector's & I am ashamed everytime I hear his name. LOL :)

Kip's solo project ain't half bad. You should at least check itout, definately not Winger material.

I think Spector could've done much better with the Holoflash. Seems too pattern like of a finish.

Yes, it is the Amber one, I like my NS5CR a bit better, but I factored in that being its in a music store, it gets beat around, setup sux,and what not. Maybe i factored a bit too much on this one? I'll be back in next week

    lol Nino

I know man, isn't that a bite in the a$$ that he played Spectors?! It's almost unbelieveable actually.

I won't mention it again, lol...allthough...Now I know how to get at you!!

(evil Gestapo voice) "Vee have vays of making you talk...Mistah Brown." :D

  9. Bassic Bob. How is your CR Spector holding up?

Winger "played" Spector? I believe his bass was the lead on the dance floor. Thank God he went on to his signature Washburn. At least he didn't sign his name on the Spector (what a sigh of relief that is)!:)

Holding up great. Love it to death. I have both my basses at home, so I only get to play when I come home from college every the weekend. I spent this weekend jamming on my Fender and then band practice Sat night I dug out the Spector. It was like the first time I played it all over again. Had to get readjusted to the neck and the B again, but I promise this weekend not to neglect it :) I have my normal band practice, where the Spector is my main axe, and then my jazz-humor-funtime band right after that, which my Fender is my main axe.

Actually, thats the reason in the first plce why I went to Sam Ash, to see if they had any CR's i could play!!

BTW, what you guys got against Winger? So what, he played in a crappy band, had fun, and now he's doing his own thing, which isn't all that bad. Kinda new age rock stuffis. Now who remembers Scatterbrain? I have a story if anyone does....

The neck is great. It's alittle uncomfortable to play strapped on. I'm gonna do some mods to this bass & will post pics when I finish the mods!!!

I had a BC Rich with a similar body shape before and found it very uncomfortable to play;the balance was terrible..you needed a death grip on the neck constantly to prevent it doing a kamakaze attack against the floor.Someone suggested I move the top strap button to the back of the neck close to where it went into the body. This suggestion could apply to your bass as well if you were inclined to try it out.

Might have to watch out for the truss rod if you try that out..just thought about that part of the problem!

  14. i think i got flamed in the past for this topic, but i saw Kip playing live with Alice Cooper in probally 86, in all honesty i thought Kip was a lousy bass player with Winger but after a 2 hour AC concert with Kip maning the bass chores i can honestly say he blows.

i was shocked AC usually has some great band members with him.

lol, I wasn't even looking to start anything over him.

I honestly don't have anything against him either so long as I don't have to see him doing twirls and spins.

It's just that the holoflash/Spector combo reminded me of those glam videos where he dances around. I was just thinking out loud at the time. :)
