Spiccato in non-classical music

Discussion in 'Jazz Technique [DB]' started by Stefan Boeters, Jul 3, 2002.

  1. Does anyone know of recorded examples of spiccato technique in non-classical music?

I've done a lot of spiccato exercises lately, hoping to get to the point where I can produce stable groove patterns with short repetitive tones, which might be a nice effect in a jazz (but rather not swing) context.

The only example I've come across is Renaud Garcia-Fonds. (The CD I think of is "Oriental Bass", but there are surely similar recordings of his.) His spiccato technique is amazing, as of course is the rest of his playing too. He uses it mostly (if not exclusively) in soloing. Now I'm looking for some more down-to-earth examples. Any suggestions?
