When I was at the bass symposium in Denton I got the chance to move the bow across Spirocore Orchestra strings on a bass for the first time.

Of course, the pizz sound was AWESOME...but I didn't have any problem making what seemed like a decent sound with the bow (at least from my perspective). Moreover, there were fantastic players moving bows across Spirocore Orchestras like no tomorrow, along with Helicore pizz strings.

What gives with the Spirocore Orchestra arco disrespect? It sounds like a great string to move the bow over...even a little girl was knocking them out and sounding great.

I think it's because it's too easy to get scratchy, particularly if you're not too good with The Stick.
  3. I like them, My teacher always uses them and he is mostly a bow player. I think they are good for someone like me who is starting to learn the DB.
I figure if I practice with a string that tends to play with a natural squeal I can only be getting better as I control it.
  4. I just got Spirocore Orchestras and am wondering if someone can tell me what is the little black tube on the D string?
  5. A tone filter.
You may (or not) place it on the string, where it touches the bridge.
I prefer Pirastro's rubber ring filter. (for the G string, that is)
  6. Thank you sir! I don't think I need that. THey sound great to me without it. Why only on the D string?
  7. Dunno!

Maybe the Thomguy could give an explanation?

Have you seen anyone use the
    tonefilter on any other string?
My A strings all seem to be a
little dead up and down the bass.
Might the tone filter help? OR...??
    Fooling around with the soundpost
    seems not to effect it.

Its not the action on the board.
This is a new Wilfer bass and is
in the initial set up faze. Nice bass,
looks killer, and I think I can get
the sound out. It seems to like the
spirocores. This dead A string is
    a little wierd.
