  2. Because Photobucket has chosen to in effect "take down" everyone's photos (unless you pay them), we have extended post edit time in the Luthier's Corner to UNLIMITED.  If you used photobucket and happen to still have your images of builds, you can go back and fix as many of your posts as far back as you wish.

Note that TalkBass will host unlimited attachments for you, all the time, for free ;)  Just hit that "Upload a File" button.  You are also free to use our Media Gallery if you want a place to create albums, organize photos, etc :)

split in body treatment

  1. I built a new work station and rearranged the room. Moving 3 cabs, a twanger and bass around quite a bit. Bass took a header (fell in its stand strings down). At least 10 days later I finally notice a crack in the body. Putting on the Holmes hat (Sherlock not John), it seems the old pawn shopper Johnson by AXL 5 string Long horn was made of three pieces of alder and at one of the seams is where the crack started at bottom face of body about an inch from top of bridge.
Will this get worse? I've had obviously no change in sound unless that crack made it better:smug:
Should I do something about it?
thanks, it's my one and only bass and I love the cheap slut,

well, I got it for free but it really plays and sounds good to me.

Hello, Is the body multiple pieces and the crack is between two of the pieces?

  3. Yes. The tobacco burst paint masks the seam but that is where the hairline split is.. where they joined the slabs of wood.
