I don't know much about pickups so I need some help. This might be a dumb question but can a split P pickup be installed wrong or backwards? all help and info appreciated.

Not really. The only thing that might cause a problem is installing it so the wires come out at the far end and won't reach the controls, or don't leave you much slack.

In other words, the innards of both parts of the pickups should be identical.

Thanks man, I know this may sound stupid but I bought a used P bass that has SD QP pickup installed and where it says basslines is upside down. So that made me wonder.

Play it left handed, you'll be fine.

With the Basslines covers, it could be that the cover was installed the "other way" and not necessarily the pickup itself.
