whenever i open my internet browser... the home page is automatically set at

do not click this because i do not know if the same thing will happen to you or not

then both my disk drives pop open... i try to reset my home page but it always goes back to that page...

what i wanna know are what some free programs are to help me get rid of this..

Try Spybot Search and Destroy or AdAware 6.0.

You can download them for free at www.download.com

That sounds nasty. I never had the disk drives opening on their own, but I did have the home page problems a while ago. It turned out to be Spyware related. Try going to majorgeek.com and downloading a spyware removal program.

Go to cnet.com and search for AdAware, like a poster above me suggested.

It rocks, and it's easy to use. Download it, install it, tell it to scan, and when it's done keep clicking next (i think it takes like three clicks before you go through the whole thing). Clicking "quarantine" just gives you a list of things it found so you can uncheck some. You obviously don't want to tell it to leave spyware and data miners on your machine, so you don't need to worry about what's behind that button.

I had a pretty bad pop-up problem going on for a while. I had our IT guy check it out (I'm at work) He said I had spy ware on my computer and my browser had been high jacked. He used free download versions of 'Ad-aware 6.0' and another program that he likes called 'HiJackThis'. I have had no problems ever sinse.

Sometimes AdAware and Spybot don't work. If not, download HiJack This from Download.com. It lists all the hijacks like the one you seem to have and allows you to delete what you'd like. Works great.

Yep, that should cover it. If not, do a search for Trojan.Qhosts.

Go here http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/ and read the FAQ. Do what it says and then post a request for help in the forum. They can walk you through the cleanup. I had to go through several steps before I was cleaned up. The files hide, so if you eliminate what you see they just reload when you reboot. Good freakin' luck.

I love these threads. I don't think we go more than a week to 10 days without one. At least is seems that way.
