  1. at last practice I decided to use my '78 jazz. Whenever I turn up the volume on either pick up past 6, I would get this horrible squeal. The neck pick up was more noticeable. I would dissapear or get drowned out when I played. I would get the squeal no matter which way I faced. The only solution was to turn down the volume.
    I played my P special practice before that and never had any problems. Could this be a problem with the pickups :confused:

    I understand if integral components of a pickup (poles, whatever) become loose the pup will become microphonic. If so, you should be able to actually speak into the pups and hear it through the amp. Not joking here - but you probably would want to do it while alone to test it.
