Squier frets wear

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Onalargerock, Apr 11, 2009.

  1. I'm a beginner with a few questions.
I have a 7 month old squier affinity J bass. I'm practicing 3.5 hours a day well the upper frets are wearing fast and even fret board has a few grooves in.I just bought a fender highwayone jazz it has much higher frets.Maybe my hands are to strong when I play and I do tons of slides on these areas not to sure why there wearing to fast.
I'm on just secound set of strings superbass round wounds fender 7250ml.
How long average do squier bass frets last?
Would heavier strings help my playing style?
    Average cost to replace frets?
(just though lighter string bends down to much from a slide hits fret board and cause wear)
    Thanks for the help.

the price to refret an affinity is not real cost effective, the type of metal your strings are made out of cause more or less wear , also roundwounds wear frets more than flats.
